Shredder accident lawsuit is refiled

The brother of a man who lost both legs in an industrial accident filed a lawsuit that says he suffered permanent emotional and psychological damage by witnessing the accident.

Gary Holcomb Jr., 23, cradled his mangled brother after he was trapped in an industrial baler-

shredding machine Jan. 15, 2005, at Neoshred, 620 Tallmadge Ave., Akron.

Andrew Holcomb, 20, was sucked feet first into an industrial paper shredder. He filed his own lawsuit in Summit County Common Pleas Court earlier this year.

The older brother's lawsuit was filed Wednesday, replacing an earlier version of the suit.

The revised suit says that Gary Holcomb ``sustained and will continue to experience severe and permanent debilitating emotional, psychiatric and psychological injuries, pain and suffering, lost wages and a diminished capacity to earn future income.''

Named as defendants are Neoshred and owner Guido Dilorio; manufacturer Compac Specialties; switch maker General Electric; and Amos Mfg.

Dog Nearly Loses Tongue in Paper Shredder

Tara the 12-year-old Labrador cross like most labs, enjoyed cleaning food up after the kids. That is, until disaster struck for the dog last Thursday at her family's home in Craigentinny, Scotland.

As usual, Tara was delightfully following her nose after one of the three Brown children had finished a snack. Unfortunately, she tracked down some biscuit crumbs on top of a paper shredder. Her tongue, which slipped past the finger-guard, activated the machine, trapping Tara and leaving her struggling violently in agony.

Her frantic squeals alerted owner Linda Brown who dashed across the living room to find her pet bleeding profusely.

The injured dog had to undergo two emergency operations on her mouth, and local vet Jim Penman had to amputate one third of Tara's badly shredded tongue.

Dog loses tongue in shredder

TARA the Labrador cross liked nothing better than eating up the biscuit crumbs dropped by her owner's children - until the day disaster struck.

The mischievous pooch sniffed out the remains of some shortbread which had fallen on to a paper shredder in her owner's Craigentinny home.
